Hand and Lip Care: A Simple Ghee-Based Routine

Hands and lips are the first places to show dryness in cold weather, with frequent washing, or after sanitiser use. This guide shares a short daily routine built around two Ayurvedic staples: ghee and gentle oils.

Why hands and lips dry out

Both areas have thin skin with few oil glands. Frequent handwashing, sanitisers, dry air and wind pull moisture away faster than the skin can replace it.

The routine

  1. After washing your hands: pat dry, then apply a small amount of hand cream, working between the fingers and over the nails. Herbostra’s Probiotic Hand Cream lists cow’s ghee, ashwagandha and almond oil as its key ingredients, and is described as absorbing without a greasy feel.
  2. Through the day: reapply a thin layer of lip balm whenever your lips feel dry. The Ghee Lip Balm uses cow’s ghee.
  3. Before bed: massage the cream into your hands and nails, and apply a slightly thicker layer of balm on your lips.

Extra tips

  • Use lukewarm rather than hot water for washing.
  • Wear gloves for washing dishes or cleaning.
  • Drink enough water through the day.

A note on allergies

Both products use cow’s ghee, and the hand cream also contains almond oil. Test a small area first if you have a milk or nut allergy.
